Reflection Questions

A guided tool to help you better understand what you’re feeling, experiencing, or carrying into therapy.

Why I Created This Tool

One of the most common things I hear, whether you're new to therapy or have been at it for a while, is that it can be hard to know where to begin. Something feels off, or heavy, or harder than it should be, but finding the words for it is its own challenge.

I created these guided reflection questions for therapy to help with exactly that. Not to replace the conversation we'll have together, but to give you a quieter moment before it, a chance to slow down, reflect honestly, and arrive with a clearer sense of what feels important right now.

There's no right way to use it. Work through one category or jump to whatever pulls at you. Select a single question or build a full shortlist. Bring it into your therapy session, or simply sit with it on your own. Whatever feels most useful to you is the right approach.

What These Reflection Questions Can Help You Explore

Self-reflection for mental health looks different for everyone. These therapy reflection questions are designed to meet you where you are - whether you're preparing for your next session, working through something between appointments, or simply trying to better understand what you're feeling right now.

Across nine themes, you'll find questions to ask yourself before therapy that invite you to look at:

  • What's been feeling heavy, off, or harder than expected lately

  • How you've been seeing yourself in quieter, more honest moments

  • Where tension or distance has been building in your relationships

  • Habits and patterns you keep returning to, even when part of you wants something different

  • What still feels unresolved from earlier experiences

  • What you may be moving toward, and what might be holding you back

You don't need to have answers. The questions themselves are the starting point.

Ready to Explore Therapy?

If something in these reflections feels worth unpacking, I'd love to help you go deeper. I offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and youth across Ontario, a confidential space to explore what matters most to you.

These reflections are offered as supportive tools to support self-understanding. They are not a substitute for therapy or professional mental health care.
